Hi Everyone,

In regards to RAM and Hard Disk upgrades as well as i cheaper backups i'm sure we can work some options out for you. With our Linux Virtual Servers HyperVM only allows us to create whole backups of a VPS and this creates storage issues when we're looking at VM's with a couple hundred GB of capacity, this has been our main limitation but i'll bring this up with the team.

I'm also going to chat with the guys about bandwidth pooling, we have discussed it in the past and it is something we would like to offer however i'm not 100% on the technical and management aspects so let me get back to you once i have more info.

Thanks for you replies so far and keep them coming!

Two things I've asked about before:

1.) RAM upgrades
2.) Trading local disk space for remote disk space for a simple backup solution

And one thing I haven't asked about:

3.) Midrange plans (1024 - 2048 RAM) would be nice to have an 2 IP's
4.) Discounts if you have multiple VPS's and make this accross both CPAU and CPUS as you may be able to catch people who might want to set up a 'backup' server offshore.

As others have already mentioned, I am only interested in saving on my existing plan, upgrades are not on my list to do as yet but if I were wanting to upgrade anything at a later date it would be RAM.

Like Crucial I am using the service to make money, not spend more. Having missed out on a sign up discount by one day and being rejected the discount, is a bit rough, now being asked to provide suggestions on how to get more from me by providing more,,,,,,,?

It's always puzzled me why hosts offer awesome deals to new customers but then if they want to upgrade they lose their discount - and more than likely move to another host who is offering awesome deals to *their* new customers. It seems to breed a culture of 'host hopping'.

Heck, that's why I moved from shared to reseller to VPS, all at different hosts, because the new customer discounts were far too enticing.

I've only been with crucial a few months and so I've got a fair bit of headroom still, but when the time comes to upgrade it would be nice to be rewarded for staying rather than being told 'you can stay... but it'll cost you heaps more'.

So I think if you want to please your existing customers, simply allow them to upgrade their plans but keep their initial deal (% off, double bandwidth, double ram, whatever).

Default Backups, and bandwidth

First, to stop me downgrading (well, removing an extra):

- get backups working reliably, i.e. daily

Most wanted extra:

- combined bandwidth

Your current offering is becoming uncompetitive for those who want redundant servers. Extra bandwidth has to be purchased for the main server, despite other bandwidth going unused. That makes the cost of using your VPS service much higher than it should be.

As for RAM etc upgrades, you could do what two other providers I use do. Every now and then they increase the specs of each VPS package, for the same price. The oldest VPS I have with one of them was originally 128M RAM, and is now 360MB. This is their smallest offering. Bandwidth, storage, etc go up each time too, so everyone ends up happy. They combine their bandwidth across all VPS in one account - I currently have 1,000GB/month total, which is way more than I am likely to use.

Another thing to consider: reward long term customers for their loyalty. Perhaps x% discount on price per year of being a customer. Or add an upgrade of something to one VPS for free, each year, where available upgrades depend on number of years as a customer.

The most important things in a VPS for me are: RAM, Bandwidth, Reliability, Network, and value for money
you already get a tick for reliability and network.
This means that altho it is possible to get better value for money if I shop around, I would hate to go somewhere else and find the reliability and network to suck.

Deals that interest me would be good value for either:
more RAM
more Bandwidth

some sort of upgrade path to one of the new plans that already have more bandwidth, with maybe a good value RAM upgrade would be awesome.

Secondary DNS would be great. I've just moved from Linode in the US, and one of the great things they provided was free slave DNS for customers whose primary was on their Linode.

Cool

Hi Ijan

I reckon some ram upgrades/processors would be beneficial to the smaller business's/websites like myself who cant affford the larger servers.

For other sites, maybe offering a discounted server management or discount addon products such as SSL certificates, backups etc would create more loyalty to your company.

(By the way, I think you need 'better' variety in terms of the SSL certificates you sell. Maybe some verisign and/or Comodo)
