Default KVM hosting?

As Xen is dying rather quickly now, will KVM based VPS hosting be available soon?

We don't have any plans yet to support KVM, however that may change in future if we find a significant demand for it or we during our regular reviews of virtualization technologies we find it to be a suitable product offering.

ill be blunt and say that i am disappointed that you arent already preparing to move to kvm, considering how important it now is in virtualisation.

Just because we aren't looking into kvm, does not mean we are not looking into other virtualization technology

Thanks for your feedback, it has been taken on board.

May I ask why you think we should move to KVM instead of using Xen, or another virtualization technology?

Xen is still very widely used, and has extremely good performance. While KVM does have its merits, so does Xen.

An interesting read I found was: Virtually A Machine: Xen vs. KVM vs. the rest of the world

without going in to a technical discussion, it should now be clear that KVM is the killing Xen. its a shame crucial wasnt an early adopter.

We have a VPS with a US provider that uses Xen and allows us to install our own kernel. We can either select Xen HVM mode and use a standard kernel (reduced performance) or Xen PV mode (high performance) and use a Xen kernel (the 2.6.38 mainline kernel works as a guest with Xen config as well with no extra patches). According to /sys/hypervisor/version/ our US VPS server is running on Xen 3.4.3 which is more recent than the current Crucial Xen version: 3.1.2-194.26.1.el5 . Would it be possible to implement this on the current host servers?

Hi Capsicum,

As we are very close to releasing a new completely revamped VPS solution I do not believe we will be doing any major upgrades to our existing solution.
