Default Full VPS backup/restore

Last night I lost a site on my server. It was my understanding after reading the feature list before I signed up here VPS & Virtual Dedicated Servers for Linux that the plan included "Backup/Restore Virtual Server".

Since I was told by tech support that there were no backups of the server. What is meant by "Backup/Restore Virtual Server" when there are no backups kept?

Hi Aglenday,

The VPS Backup option is only enabled if you choose VPS backups option when you ordered (this is an extra fee). We have had some reported problems with this Full VPS backup solution.

If you do have this option purchased, please shoot an email to feedback@crucial.com.au so we can investigate why there is no backup of your VPS. Please indicate the ticket number where you contacted our Tech Team.

It wasn't selected as an option, I couldn't even find where to sign up for it until after I needed it. I did look for it but the only options I could find in the management area was to offset my carbon emissions or hosting packages.

The full VPS backup/restore feature mentioned on the VPS features page was part of the reason (although not the only reason) I went with Crucial and if it's not part of the package it should be removed from the feature list or it should be made clear that the items in the feature list aren't actually all features but some are options.

Hi Ashely,

The FAQ section of the Linux VPS section on our site, shows that the VPS Backup is an extra addition, VPS & Virtual Dedicated Servers for Linux.

Further to that, during the order process it is clearly listed as an additional option which must be selected.

It is just not feasible to offer free backups for every VPS we have, the numerous amounts of data required to keep and maintain this sort of setup requires some sort of cost to be covered, this is why it is offered as an extra option at an additional cost.

Feel free to shoot an email to feedback@crucial.com.au should you wish to discuss this further.
